About Us

A Word from the President, Dr. Nora Kelner

Dr Nora KelnerFor nearly twelve years I have been part of various committees at the Alzheimer Society of Montréal. I have been fortunate to work with exceptional professionals who devote their time and share their expertise developing and implementing exciting projects.

As always, our goal is to improve the quality of our programmes and services. In fact, they are currently based on a Needs Assessment Study conducted in year 2000, which provides us with relevant information on how to better serve Montréal’s culturally diverse population.

This study also inspired a strategic planning process that led us to redefine the respective roles of our professional counsellors. Since then, the Society systematically reviews its programmes and services every three years. Our objective is to remain flexible enough to modify our pace and to identify new needs and priorities without losing sight of the essential: the people affected, their families and friends, in their journey that starts as soon as the diagnosis is made.

Positive changes were also made to our fundraising practices. This enables us to continue developing our programmes and services, as well as expand the training we offer to family and professional caregivers, and contribute to various levels of research.

Faced with increasing demands, we are now working on a new, exciting and ambitious project. Our focus is on building a home that will provide a model of practice and set standards of training and care foreseen to be much needed.

Over the years, we overcame the stigma of Alzheimer’s and related disorders and we are delighted to be part of the greater community. We enjoy strong links with health care professionals and the health care network where we have become a household name. With the undying help of our precious volunteers and loyal supporters, we strive toward a common vision.

We thank you all and remind you that we need and appreciate your help and support and welcome new ideas.
